Arsenal transfer news: Gunners plot January swoop for Pablo Fornals with ‘17.8million deal’ lined up
Arsenal hope to sign Villarreal ace Pablo Fornals when the January transfer window opens, according to reports.Fornals, the midfielder, has caught the eye this season, scoring three times in all competitions and chipping in with a further two assists. His most eye-catching moment came in a 3-0 defeat of Athletic Club, when the 22-year-old fired a long-range volley into the back of the net from 40 yards.Fornals’ performances have earned him a return to the Spain squad, and Arsenal have begun to track him ahead of the transfer window reopening in just over a month. And, according to The Sun, the Gunners hope to wrap up a January deal for Fornals by triggering his release clause with a 17.8million bid.The north Londoners are prepared to match the clause as manager Unai Emery plans for life with Aaron Ramsey, the Wales midfielder who will leave the Emirates either in January or when his contract expires at the end of the season. A deal for Fornals, who began his career with Malaga, could be funded by the sale of Mohamed Elneny. The Egypt international, has not made a league appearance this season and will be sold if an offer of around 15million is submitted to Arsenal.

West Ham legend Tony Cottee has praised "really nice lad" Declan Rice and claimed the youngster can captain the Hammers one day. The former striker, who now works as a commentator, scored over 120 top-flight goals for the east London side in two stints with the club.
